La Selección Oficial del 78.º Festival de Cine de Cannes se anunció hace pocos días, con 19 películas en competición.
Entre los nombres conocidos que presentarán nuevas obras en la Competencia se incluyen Wes Anderson, que presenta su última película The Phoenician Scheme; Richard Linklater lanzará Nouvelle Vague , su película filmada en París; Jochim Trier estrena su último largometraje Sentimental Value; y la ganadora de la Palma de Oro de la Titane, Julia Ducournau, regresa con Alpha.
Cannes inaugurará este año con Leave One Day, de la debutante francesa Amélie Bonnin. Thierry Frémaux declaró durante su rueda de prensa que era la primera vez que una ópera prima era seleccionada para inaugurar el festival. También llega por primera vez a la Croisette el autor de terror Ari Aster, quien regresa al cine con su popular largometraje para A24, Eddington.
Por otra parte, la cineasta estadounidense Kelly Reichardt presentará su largometraje The Mastermind en competición, el drama bélico de Oliver Hermanus, The History of Sound, se proyecta en competición, y el cineasta iraní Jafar Panahi regresa a Cannes con In Simple Accident.
La veterana actriz de Hollywood Scarlett Johansson ha llegado a Un Certain Regard con su primer trabajo como directora, Eleanor the Great. El actor británico Harris Dickinson también aparece en la selección paralela con Urchin, su debut como director.
Los habituales de Cannes Kirill Serebrennikov, Raoul Peck y Sebestian Lelio estrenarán nuevos trabajos en la sección Cannes Premiere, mientras que Rebecca Zlotowski estará fuera de competición con su película protagonizada por Jodie Foster, Vie Privée.
El festival confirmó que Misión: Imposible - El Ajuste de Cuentas, de Tom Cruise y Paramount, se estrenará en la Croisette. La película se proyectará fuera de competición el 14 de mayo, con Cruise, el director Christopher McQuarrie y el resto del elenco.
Robert De Niro recibirá la Palma de Oro honorífica del festival en la ceremonia inaugural. La actriz francesa Juliette Binoche presidirá el jurado, sucediendo a Greta Gerwig, quien presidió el jurado el año pasado.
El festival de este año se celebrará del 13 al 24 de mayo.
