Las nominaciones a la 96ª edición de los Oscar fueron anunciadas el pasado mes de enero con Oppenheimer de Universal (13 nominaciones) a la cabeza, seguida de Killers of the Flower Moon de Apple Original Films (10 nominaciones), Poor Things de Searchlight (11 nominaciones) y Warner Bros con Barbie (8 nominaciones).
Hubo sorpresas en las principales categorías, empezando por la omisión de Leonardo DiCaprio por Killers of the Flower Moon en la categoría de Mejor Actor, aunque la Academia reconoció a Robert De Niro en la categoría de Mejor Actor de Reparto y convirtió a Gladstone en la primera nominada importante para una actriz nativa americana por su papel decisivo.
Abundaron las sorpresas, incluida la nominación de Annette Bening y Jodie Foster por Nyad, la película de Netflix que pasó desapercibida. Si bien Bradley Cooper fue desairado en la categoría de Mejor Director, su película Maestro de Leonard Bernstein obtuvo una buena puntuación esta mañana, con una nominación a Mejor Película, una para Carey Mulligan a Mejor Actriz y otra para Cooper en las categorías de Mejor Actor y Mejor Guión Original por el guión que escribió con Josh Singer.
Oppenheimer estuvo representado en todas las categorías principales, con Christopher Nolan como Mejor Director, Robert Downey Jr como Mejor Actor de Reparto, Murphy como Mejor Actor y Emily Blunt en las categorías de Mejor Actriz de Reparto. Nolan también obtuvo una nominación al Mejor Guión Adaptado por llevar a la pantalla la vida del hombre considerado el padre de la bomba atómica.
Poor Things, fácilmente la visión más completa y mejor ejecutada de una premisa extravagante desde la ganadora a Mejor Película del año pasado, Everything Everywhere All At Once, estuvo representada en todas las categorías principales y es un claro contendiente oscuro en una reinvención de la historia de Frankenstein. Si bien el extraño giro de Willem Dafoe como el retorcido padre/creador del personaje de Bella de Emma Stone no logró el Oscar, Stone fue nominado a Mejor Actriz, Mark Ruffalo a Mejor Actor de Reparto y Yorgos Lanthimos en la categoría de Mejor Director.
Otro caso atípico a observar es la inquietante La zona de interés de Jonathan Glazer . Además de Mejor Película, la película obtuvo nominaciones para Glazer a Mejor Director y por adaptar la novela de Martin Amis sobre el comandante de Auschwitz y su intento de criar a su familia al lado del campo de concentración de la casa de los horrores.
Un total de 23 categorías están en juego mientras la temporada de premios cinematográficos llega a su punto máximo después de un año que despegó en serio ese fin de semana de julio cuando Barbie y Oppenheimer, también conocido como Barbenheimer, llegaron a los cines al mismo tiempo.
